Sanbonmatsu-yu is a retro public bathhouse with a long history dating from early Showa era, located in Onaga-nishi, Higashi-ku, Hiroshima City. The building has continued since before the war, escaping damage from the atomic bombing, and retains a strong Showa atmosphere with wooden lockers, a bandai (reception counter), mosaic tiles, and tile paintings. The bathhouse is compact, with a unique 3-step main bathtub characteristic of Hiroshima, and at the back, a stone-paved Chinese-medicinal bath, with somewhat lukewarm water loved by local residents.
