Shinchi-yu

Since opening its noren in Showa 9 (1934), over 90 years have passed. By the Aioi Bridge over the Muko River, it continues to heat its bath as the only remaining public bathhouse in Sanda City. Rather than petroleum, the bath uses waste wood as fuel, a custom of this bathhouse, and regulars say the water it produces is gentle with a mellow feel against the skin. Above the tub hangs a painting by local Sanda artist Kagito Higashiyama, which can be enjoyed while soaking. There is no sauna or outdoor bath, but this is a place where one can quietly face the water itself. The name 'Shinchi' carries down the fact that this neighborhood was once a town called Shinchi.
