Sakamaki Onsen Kawazuya is a secluded inn in Akiyama-go, Tsunan Town, Niigata Prefecture. It is known as the inn where the writer Eiji Yoshikawa developed the concept for The Heike Story. The bath has a cave-like design and is called Meisō no Yu, with views overlooking the Nakatsugawa Gorge. The spring is a colorless, transparent radium-containing sulfur spring. Seasonal dishes include mountain vegetables, bear hot pot and mushroom soup. It is about 17 minutes by car from Echigo-Tanaka Station and Ashidaki Station. It is for overnight guests only and does not offer day-use bathing.
